Why do you want to be a part of ED LAW?
*
Some of the traits necessary for success in the legal profession are:
*Critical Thinking and Judgment
*Collaborating and Leading
*Drive for Excellence
*Effective Communication
*Relationship Building and Management
*Service Orientation
Which one or two of these do you best embody and how do you demonstrate that?
*
PARTS 2, 3, and 4 - Speech and Letter of Recommendation
PART 2 - WRITTEN SPEECH
You may choose EITHER of the below prompts to address in your speech. Your speech will be presented in both written and oral forms so that you can be assessed on three dimensions of legal practice - persuasive writing, oral advocacy, and critical research.
You are advised to be as specific as possible in your comments, to use specific examples and arguments to support your position, and to avoid the use of the first person ("I think that...").
You are encouraged to use research to enhance the quality of your speech, but all submissions must be your original work.
Prompt #1: What is the most important skill or trait a successful legal advocate could possess and why?
Prompt #2: How is an effective justice system the cornerstone of a free society?
Format: Speeches may be one minute maximum when delivered, so your written speech should be about two-thirds of a page typed and double-spaced. Please title your speech "ED LAW Admission Speech, [Your Full Name], Prompt #[1 or 2; whichever you choose]".
Upload your typed response to PART 2 - WRITTEN SPEECH. You need to upload either a MS WORD document or a PDF file to ensure that we are able to access it. :)
Please name your speech file [Last Name First Name] EDLAW Admissions
*
PART 3 - SPEECH PRESENTATION
There will be multiple opportunities provided for ED LAW applicants to present their speeches. Dates and locations will be made available on the ED LAW website. Please type your initials in the box below to confirm that you have read this section :).
*
PART 4 - EVALUATION FORM
Ask a teacher or mentor who is not related to you and can speak to your academic and collaborative capacity and/or your passion for the law to complete the Teacher/Mentor Evaluation Form (available on the EDLAW website). Please be considerate of your evaluator's time and schedule and provide him/her as much notice as possible (i.e. do not wait until the night before the application is due to request an evaulation :) .
What is the email address of your teacher/mentor?
*
What is your teacher's/mentor's name?
